Planning in a world with no plans…
So, on this dreary rainy Monday I thought I would share my thoughts about planning in a world that has no plans. All of my life I have been a planner, since a very young age I have always planned ahead, whether it was my assignments in school or a party for my parent’s anniversary, I was ALWAYS a planner. After I got married and had children, anyone who is a mother knows how important it is to plan your schedule, plan your meals, plan their nap times. As my kids got older, while still continuing my passion for planning with my clients’ weddings and bar/bat mitzvahs, I planned family vacations, dinners with friends and weekend activities.
Now, as Covid turned our world upside down, so many people have been so greatly affected financially, physically and of course emotionally by this terrible disease. Many have lost their jobs, so many people are suffering from mental health issues feeling isolated and alone, and those business’ that were directly affected by Covid, small business’, restaurants, business related to any industry that cannot operate safely due to Covid. I have immense gratitude for my health, for my family and my friends well-being and for the financially stability that my husband can provide during a time where I am not able to work.
However, all of a sudden, my career of 25 plus years, has become almost obsolete overnight and we are all faced with the ominous question of “when will this all end and will life go back to normal?” Can I see us going back to a time where 200 plus guests will be dancing side by side, holding hands, singing and enjoying life’s most significant celebrations and milestones? The answer is “I don’t know, but I certainly hope that one day we will.” We will be able to hug again, we will be able to have dinner with friends in a restaurant, be able to plan parties, be able to go and see a movie, and be able to do all of the simple things that brought us pleasure and that we certainly took for granted.
Covid has changed us all, there is no one person who has not been deeply affected by it, I know I have focused on a lot of the negatives, but there are some positives. It has brought families closer together, it has forced us to challenge ourselves to make restaurant style meals right in our very own kitchens, it has caused us to reach out to longtime friends that we may have not spoken to in years and it has taught us to be kind and empathetic, as we are DEFINITELY all in this together.
So, as we near the end of 2020, let us all hope that we may one day “PLAN” again and not just our next meal.
Be well my friends, I leave you with this one final thought.
“We are all a little broken. But last time I checked, broken crayons still colour the same.”

Thank you for this post Tamara. Well written. personally, we were supposed to have our son's Bar Mitzvah last May. We postponed it to this May but who knows?
A very heartfelt piece...thank you for posting.....we must be positive and look forward to a brighter 2021
So true... it has been a time like no other we have ever experienced but we need to try to see a little bit of the good it has brought. And just think of how thankful we will be when we get to enjoy the things we took for granted before. Can’t wait for a 50th birthday Dundana reunion!❤️
We are all in this together and regardless of the story you are right, we have all been affected by COVID-19. My father is still in the hospital from a freak accident and although little by little and with all of the prayers and the grace of Hashem he is slowly getting better, but due to COVID we can not visit him. As our oldest sons bar mitzvah is coming and although we can only have a few people in attendance, my dad won’t be able to be there physically, but I am so greatful that he will be able to watch it on zoom. Although it breaks my heart that my Dad will not be there to see his first grandson enter into the same covenant that I did and that he did I am so greatful that he is alive. My hope is one day he will come home perhaps not the same way he left but he will come home, and for that I am so thrilled and greatful. My mom has been there at the hospital everyday for two months and she has been his rock. So yes COVID has also affected us, but one day soon we will all celebrate my dad coming home and we will one day have a huge party for him and hug him. So as we end 2020 may 2021 be the year that my dad comes home and may we all give him a big hug and be able to all be with him to cheer him through the door. He has been on deaths door and survived. So no matter what people say about this being an inconvenience and a shitty time because they can’t eat at restaurants or go out as much think of other people who have loved ones who are sick and in hospitals and can’t visit them. So yes be kind to everyone that we can and try to be a little less selfish in our thinking as there are others also affected, and one day this will all be over and we can go back to our lives but we will never be the same again!
Beautifully written Tamara Vertlieb Temes and so insightful. Amongst the negative, as you say is always positive when you look hard enough. We will hopefully come out of this tough time with new appreciation, and hopefully some gratitude for what we all have.

Looks like an amazing party.
As I reflect upon the last 24 years in this business, I realize that every family, and every client has a story. As a wedding and party planner I am privy to some of the most intimate parts of people lives and their stories. So, today I decided to start to share some of these amazing memories and ONE crazy story. Pictured here is a bride from 12 years ago, a bride that I was fortunate enough to be hired to help plan her wedding. Now, here comes the funny part, 12 years later this beautiful bride is now my son's Grade 5 teacher. So, on the first day of school as she is checking her attendance she sees the name "Temes" and quickly asks my son, is your mom by chance Tamara Temes? Of course, he replies "yes, that's my mom." Then the teacher says "your mom planned my wedding." What a small world.
So, what I can take away from this story is, one never knows who will cross your path again, in this case it was a fortunate turn of events for both me and my son. ... See MoreSee Less

I am very I interested to find out how many of you ladies have kept the same engagement ring that your husband proposed to you with? I was married just about 24 years ago and the styles of engagement rings have certainly changed a lot over the years. I had a very beautiful but chunky yellow gold engagement ring. So, I decided for one of my milestone birthdays I wanted to update my engagement ring. I modernized my ring and custom designed it with an amazing and very talented jewelry designer and I am now absolutely in love with it. I also had the chance to incorporate some diamonds that were passed down from my maternal grandmother, which makes the ring now even that much more special. I would love to hear your stories.
(Photo is not my personal ring but it is stunning!!!) ... See MoreSee Less
God bless my hubby, when I asked to change my ring setting after 20 yrs which he had custom designed and made with all the love in his heart, he told me.....will you please wait till I’m dead 😂 😂 😂 some men hang on the the past!
Same rings! 20 years this June. Loved them then..., still love them!
Same rings hubby and I have been together for 14 years, married for 8. (We waited 5 years, 2 kids later before we tied the knot)then had another baby.
Well I have a replacement ring because mine was stolen in a break-in a couple of weeks ago.
22 years, as you may recall...since your were there... same one. Gold band that fits within a gold ring with a solitary diamond. it reminds me each day of where we were and where we have grown to. i will never change it. i have 9 other fingers for other rings i may one day inherit.
After a cleaning lady stole the original (that was simple & I loved) I decided to redesign the new one. Love this one too.
Same but married 13 years "only" . Your ring is stunning!!!
Married almost 16 years. Same ring. But FYI - yellow gold is back in style. Both my daughters received stunning yellow gold engagement rings.
We all know wedding season is just around the corner and I am seriously in love with this new trend for 2019 of hanging florals. I can’t think of anything more romantic or magical. ... See MoreSee Less
